Hi all, Happy to have found this site. I Have been keeping finches on and off for over 20 years. Gave away canaries after seeing a Mexican for the first time and loved their colour and character in the aviary ever since. Got my dad into them as well and between us we have 5 pairs of Mexicans, along with gold finches and for the first time last year we bought a pair of red siskins each.
So far this season we have 9 young Mexicans and though have had some frustrations with the reds, Dad has two young that are nearly ready to separate from parents and his hen is on three eggs again. Not so lucky with mine, the first round were clear, she did get one from her next clutch but at 10 days old we had a 42 degree day here in melb and it vanished from the nest (possibly jumped but never found it) I have at least one from the next clutch born a few days ago so fingers crossed we maintain the current mild conditions. Anyway I talk about them too much as you can see. Looking forward to reading other stories and possibly learning a thing or three.
Mike
