Keeping cats away

Someone in my neighbourhood allows their cat to roam at night. It quite often sends my aviary finches into a panic. Is there any product available that keeps cats away from a back yard?
Thanks,
Dave

While the guys are correct. Getting a possum trap from the local council and delivering the offender to the local cat haven also works. And installing an electric fence that you turn on at night only is somewhat effective.

While it's still hot, why not be kind to the cat and provide him/her with a container of water.
Just don't forget to add a little anti freeze ( the kind one puts into a car radiator) make sure your own animals are out of reach.
cheers, Case.

*Sigh*
The responsible thing to do is to work out where the cat is coming from and leave a note politely ask your neighbours to keep their cat locked up at night.
If you cannot work out where the cat is coming form, trap it and leave a note attached to its collar.
If neighbours do not respect your request follow through with a delivery to an animal shelter.
No need for killing someone else's beloved pet.

There are a few ways some already mentioned some not. You will have to make your own decision although its not the cats fault it is the owners fault. Its in their nature to kill. By law it should not be in your yard and you have the right to protect your livestock. You will only be able to trap it once most likely. And if you tell your neighbour you have a issue with their cat they will know who has handed it to the pound or otherwise. If your happy with this situation by all means tell them the problem otherwise protect your livestock.

I've had problems with next doors cat killing wildlife and scaring my birds. I told her once "your cat get around a bit" she replied "it's always bringing home dead birds".
I always wondered what I'd like to do to her furry friend

d last time it got out of the cat trap only 5 second from a home run so I purchased an electric fence.
A few days back I was looking out the lounge room window and it was again in front of the aviary. So I went out the side door and threw my arms up and yelled at it. Instead of running towards me it reversed and took off North and straight into my electric fence.
*censored* that was a good site. I'd pay $50 to see that again....lol Since the install I've been wondering if it's working or not! Well when it hit the fence then got tangled up I can confirm - boody oath it is...lol I ran a 5 strand affair about 20 metres in length and it passed through or hit wire 2 or 3. apart from the blood curdling howl and being tossed on its ass end it certainly straighten it out. It only hit the fence once lol and no repeat hit and then got up and ran straight past me and back over the fence into their yard. All in a matter of a few seconds
If I'd had a shovel handy I could have had a go at putting it back in shape. Overall the fence was a pretty good investment for $200 in total and powered by a 12volt motorcycle battery.
I always wanted to touch it and see if it was working or not. You know - the lights blinking to indicate its firing a charge but you'd like to be re-assured. Well the supplier told me it will give you a good tickle at 6000 volts - well after seeing the cat hit it - I'd say its working pretty good....lol
Now all I require is a few more cats!

I've got 2 staffies that sort them out for me. They're up to 6 dead cats now. Just threw another out this week. Beautiful dogs. Very gentle with my 4 year old daughter and she torments them. The dogs don't bother the birds one bit. They're like my Oddballs. The neighbours have all been warned and one bloke keeps replacing his cats and letting them rome at night. I blame the owner more than the cats.

Just go out and buy a solar powered electric cattle fence unit.
Run your wire through some insulators around the top edge of your aviary.
If you are still concerned a 2nd wire run 1200mm up from the ground.
The top one will sort cats and hawks out and the lower one will give a cat a belt as it tries to climb
up the wire. It's amazing how quick they learn
