Gunnedah bird sale 2016 Did you go?

Is the number of people attending, both the buyers and sellers, to the bird sales events reducing? What is going on here? Remember this is the Holy Grail of sales, the must attend number one birds sale event on the sale calender!
Even though I did enjoy the not so crowded sales hall  combined with the smaller crowds of people hustling and bustling for best position when entering the Gunnedah bird sale this year. This year not all the racking / tables appeared to be overflowing with bird cages as seen in previous years, in fact there were some empty positions available. The bird sale committee conducted themselves in a professional manner  and should be congratulated on delivering another excellent event, including the perfect weather conditions on the day. Unfortunately, I had to leave the sale early due to a health condition, before 11.30, and did not have the chance to talk to as many people as I would like to have.
How did this smaller buying crowd effect my sales. Not at all, as I sold most of my finches as did the others around my area in the first 60 minutes or so.

The reason I am writing this post is prompt others into action to attend such ionic sales! Everyone should support these type of events as we all can make a reason why we dont go but like most things in life you dont miss it until its gone.

I hope this is not the beginning of the end of the bird sale events?

This is in my opinion Al but i think Technology is the main cause. With Facebook,Petlink and all the other online sites available to breeders to sell their birds big bird breeders can sell from home or freight birds all over Australia without catching them up to take to a bird sale.
It's easier to upload a photo of your birds to sell than catch them up and take to a sale, i'm talking big parrot breeders which usually dominate sales.
Finches being small will always be available in numbers at birds sales due to the reverse of what i said above except for foriegns here in Victoria at the moment.
Imo i'm afraid it's the sign of the times and technology is making people lazy but also making life faster if that makes sense. Craig

Slightly off topic Craig but I'm a member of a fair few bird sales pages on Facebook and I see very few finches advertised for sale on Facebook. It hasn't really seemed to have taken off as a platform to sell finches.

Would have to agree with Craig ,over here in Kiwiland sites like trade me and Facebook sites are making it easier to find and sell birds before the sales, with many birds per sold before the sale. New Zealands biggest sale is in two weeks time so it will be interesting to see how the numbers are.
We still need these sales so to encourage new people to the hobby especially the young ones.
Dont know if its lazy but i would say its easier for some. I still go if anything to catch up with fellow breeders to see how their seasons going and what birds are ouy there.

I agree, that's what i said. " Finches are small and will always be available at bird sales" whereas big parrot breeders are selling their birds online with digital pics without handling them and stressing the birds at a bird sale.

Was good to catch up with plenty of people at this sale who I don't get the chance to see very often. Had a particularly good night last night with some good company, beers & camp oven tucker.
I very nearly collided with a massive boar on the road on the way in the wee small hours only to take out 2 mature roos simultaneously about 5 minutes later. Made it home in one piece this arvo though so all's well.

Glad all's well Tiaris, i would prefer not to hit anything let alone a massive boar. He would cause some real damage. :o

Yes, he got the adrenalin going pretty well for 4:30am - wouldn't have been a soft landing for either of us. Never seen or heard of them around that area (Cathedral Rock/Wollomombi) despite travelling that way many times over several decades - plenty of roos typically at that hour though so that wasn't such a cause to check the jocks as a bullbar-high black monstrosity charging out of the scrub in front of me.
