Are there any Forum members who actually have Chaffinches or Red Crested Finches in their collections.
Also if so have they bred any this season.

I have two pairs of chaffies here.
Both pairs were 2014/2015 bred. One pair laid twice and both times the eggs were clear. The other pair I picked up in early January and never attempted to nest.
I know of at least another 3prs in Perth all which failed to rear young successfully I believe.

The keeping and breeding of bird species endemic to Western Europe is a large part of the bird hobby in that part of the world.
There are speciality clubs and organizations who solely concentrate on species endemic to Europe, have their own forums and bring out monthly magazines.
Breeders of all sorts of bird species ranging from orangebreasts to large hornbills and birds of prey sometimes document their breeding results and findings. In Holland and Belgium these are known as a "kweekverslag"
I have enclosed such a document on the Chaffinch.
Let google be your friend and use Google translate to turn the document from Double Dutch into some sort of English you will understand.

Hope this article is of some assistance to enthousiasts and breeders of the Chaffinch.
