Good morning everyone,
Last night an add was put up on petlink for some zebra finches. There appears to be one male with a very dark cheek patch and a female with a very wide tear drop. Not to mention a few other unusually marked birds. Can anybody comment if this picture has been taken from the internet. I haven't been able to find it. I wouldn't be able to get to victoria to look myself but maybe someone on here may be interested.

Haven't seen petlink photos. I have these zebras , are they considered as wide tearmarked?

Tear drops would vary from bird to bird. Top one is a Pied Grey Hen and Bottom one mayb a Marked White Hen.

Are they hens marked like these?
same photo zoomed in.

These birds were bred in Port Macquarie 12 - 18 months old.

Bit too much sunlight on the pics. But the unusual birds seem to be hens.

The hens show the tear drop / black cheek marking and the cock birds are their siblings (possible split). I have not line bred them as yet as I was awaiting for the hens to moult for the second time to see if they lost their dark marking.
The heritage of the birds is blue/silver grandparents produced normal looking (split ??) chicks and these marked birds are their chicks.

I think dilute blue & silver are both dominant mutations. If so, no splits are possible.

Correct Tiaris, Silver and Dilute Blue are Dominant.

From those cheek markings it sure looks like there is a mutation gene of some sort at work here. Good luck in developing them Wagga.
