Many years ago, as a young girl, my father successfully bred Zebra, Gouldian and Gold Finches together with Canaries and tiny King Quail. Basically doing so by the seat of his pants and through a lot of trial and error (no internet back then).
Now I'm retired and have the time to physically emerse myself in those wonderful memories, I want to start keeping/breeding those darling zebras. On a much smaller scale though and most certainly not on the scale of my father, who built his own 8'x6'x7' (not metric yet) aviary, just an extra large cage on castors for me, as I plan to keep them on the deck when my hubby finishes it's build.
I thought this forum would be a good site to update knowledge passed on from dad and obtain expert advice before I even consider buying the birds. I literally want to hit this hobby running. :D

Hello and welcome to the forum! Zebs are a charming little bird and are very easy to keep and breed. I'm sure you'll find lots of information here to help you on the way to becoming a Zebra finch pro.

Welcome to the forum. I, like you, grew up as a little girl with mum and dad breeding birds. But I couldn;'t wait to have my own avairys (hubby has restricted me to 4) And like you I must have Zebs. Recommend at least a metre square cage for their comfort, and your enjoyment.

Pol,

Welcome to the forum.

That size cage/aviary, 1 or 2 pair of Zebs, plenty of wicker baskets... full in 12 months.

Good luck

Ken.

Welcome Pol, i relatively new to this forum also. Check out the search function to search keywords. Brings up all the old threads etc. A very useful tool!
The birds feast on Lebanese cucumber while the rest of us have to settle for the continental variety...says it all really!
