Hi all,
Sorry that this is not a finch topic but know many of us do have the odd pair of Scarlets amongst our finches, so hope it's ok to ask for advice in this situation.
I was given a Scarlet cock with one foot yesterday and was wondering if he will be able to mate? I have heard that they sometimes have trouble due to not being able to balance too well on the hen. Thanks for any advice.

Many of us have had experiences with one-legged birds successfully mating and producing young

I think he'll be fine . .

Keep us posted

Time will tell. I must admit that one-legged hens tend to be more successful than males.

A flat surface can sometimes help. So if you can put a 30cm sq shelf somewhere near the box/log that might up the odds. Just as boxs are sometimes better for these guys than logs are.

Good news here with the Scarlet pair, three healthy young in the box. Hope everyone else is having a good start to the season. Cheers, Deegs.

Well there you go Deegs.... where there is a will there is a way!

Good luck, happy to hear of the outcome.

Have had many one leggers, most do ok.

Ken.

Just proves that the male sex will do what it takes to procreate!
