i have read that there specific lines of bengalese that are developed specifically for being good fosterers - was looking at a back-up for the inevitable abandoned next/chicks

2hens or a known pair work okay...Bengalese are any domestic finch... although some other species will foster as well...such as zebs

Once the Zebs fly the nest my male Bengos call them into the nests at night, and keep them warm. Think they are frustrated daddies because I have far more cocks than hens.

i was just interested in thoughts on certain strains being better as i had read somewhere.

The other concern is parasite transmission but i suppose thats what my microscope and drug cabinate are for!

I have all 3 shades, chestnut, fawn and choc. It does not seem to make any difference, and infection wise, I have tougher Zebs than I do Bengos.
