hi guys today i came home to a very generous girl friend who bought me a pair of painted. unfortunately the female who is an orange painted seems to be sick. she is sitting on the floor shaking her head and bringing up seed. she also has a swolen lump near her rump which seems red and inflamed. could she be egg bound. any suggestions?

Not sure either but I would be getting her into a hospital cage and keeping her temp. & fluids up (32deg.).
Looking it up in "Gouldian Finches -a complete pet owner's manual" dose sound like it could be egg bound. If so it sugest adding a few drops warm mineral oil into the cloaca using a plastic dropper.
Just my thoughts with out seeing the bird.

about the only thing you can really do is to put her in a hospital cage one in which she can be kept at a warmer temperature. the odd time that I do this I also increase the humidity level as well

Only ever had an egg bound quarrion but im guessing the treatment is the same for all types....as per vets advice , hospital cage and a constant warm temp , some non toxic (edible ) oil around the vent and rest.
You could seek out a vet as I did and they will probably administer antibiotic by injection but then you have to weigh up the cost for this ...good luck with it.
