white and white can't be bred together
crested and crested can't be bred together.
soft feather and soft feather can't be bred together
hard feather and hard feather can't be bred together.

Im glad finches seem to be a lot easier

But once you have been breeding canaries for many years you discover that some of those cants are shouldnts. And many shouldnts can be done occasionally with care by experienced breeders who know the difference between tweeking and ruining. Quite a few for instance will put crest to crest, and soft feather to soft feather. Risking of course bald spots and feathers too soft that cause cheesy systs. Hence the need to know the limit.
