Sani Chick

I have been told by a Canary Breeder that he uses Sani Chick at 1/2 Mil per Litre in there drinking water all year round , can this harm the birds ?
It's actually just iodine as a disinfectant but it could be over dosed in small finches, we all need iodine but just not sure how much.
