Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have checked this site and the internet and can't find an answer. Is a cascade palm safe to plant in my aviary. If not has anyone got any ideas of any plants that grow about 1.5m high and only about 0.5m wide that I can plant in my aviary...Thanks in advance

If you don't get frosts it should be fine as it doesn't grow too high,
I use standard roses in my aviaries as well as other schrubs.
The birds like the thorny protection they are tough grow quickly and are
clean around the base which doesn't assist the vermin if they get in

I don't know of any palm that is poisonous. I have successfully grown dwarf date palms in aviaries with no trouble. However whilst I agree that they are attractive, and thats enough of a reason to plant one IMO, they are not necessarily the most useful of plants for finches. My birds paid no attention to my palm. its possible that a clumping, multi-suckered variety might be more utilised, but i'd consider planting bamboos, tall tropical grasses etc..

I have bamboo and tall grasses and lots of other safe plants. I just wanted to fill a spot. I'm still waiting for it all to establish before I let the birds into it. They are still in the other aviary. Thanks for letting me know. I can plant it now.
