Instead of pounding "supplements", I would prefer to use an electric grinder if they are available & suitable.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I make my own grit mix just using the blender. Shells, egg shells, cuttlefish, charcoal. I just try not to blend it to dust. Comes out alright and is alot cheaper than buying it from rip off merchants. The Birds hoe it down.

I use an electric corn cracker - bloody noisy but efffective. Use it for grinding smaller cuttlebone, charcoal & eggshell pieces & also for breaking up sunflower seed for Siskins.

I'd caution against using blender/grinder machines for harder materials (e.g. oyster shell) or the life expectancy of the blades will be measured in minutes....perfectly fine 'though for softer mineral matter, nuts and seeds.

I'll stick to the potato masher for eggshells and a gentle hammer tap for charcoal when necessary. Cuttle fish I just hand break into chunks for them and I don;t use shell grit.
