What do you guys think? I have heard it whistle but no trilling yet.
I thought who better to ask than the experts.
Thanks,

Personal opinion cockbird, not in great feather but as a rule if there are a couple of red feathers
around the vent it generally indicates a cockbird.

I would say poor quality or young cock bird. ..going by size of bib and red vent feathers. ..

I tend to agree VP, the bird has still got a lot of moulting out to do. Craig

Gonz, please be sure to post back if it trills or lays an egg...this will allow us to hone our sexing skills.

If it is a male it must be young & not fully coloured otherwise so poorly coloured that it shouldn't be bred from (again IMO only).

I go by the amount of red behind the eye and the width of the black band in front of the eye. So i'd be calling that a hen, UNLESS its still colouring up, in which case it could turn out to be a cock. Do you have any other RFPF's? In sunlight the cocks will be a much more luminous red in my (rather limited) experience.
