Hi Elf,
With your pic3 bird did the red colour show much when they fledged or came with the first moult?

Fortunately mine seem a bit slow flying when they first fledge, hence the current batch camping with the quail, but they seem fine once they get going.

Colour comes on slower. In pic 1 colour starts off as black and at the 6 month mark you hit 90% of the red you'll get.

The ones like in pic 3 colour faster. I have a young one now with dark brown coming through the front and red on the head. His bro is forming like pic 1 so im keen to see how they form.

Pics below are two young brothers, the father is pic 3 male

Red fronted looking to have good back n head colour like i wanted. The mother was fawn red from red breasted parents.

So that bottom photo is a Red Fawn Charcoal.
