I just wanted to share a recent pic of my elderly canary, Fonzie.
He can't fly anymore as his wing feathers aren't the best or move around much as his feet are arthritic and he is missing one toe on each foot.
He seems happy enough, love the little guy

Does anyone have any tips on caring for an old bird?
I have removed the perches and have some flat pieces of wood around the floor so he can see outside.

Reminds me of my elder bird "Fudge" growing up.

He lived to be ~15 years old... and we did NOTHING special... carrots and dandelions, lots of baths, occasional sprint around the house, and a few romps outside in the grass with the cage bottom taken off. He outlived two mates. And sang til the day he died. Some birds just have great genes!

Give him his favourite foods and let him enjoy retirement!

Make sure he has access to a shallow bath in pleasant weather, and course sand for grit. And all his favourite treats, cause he has earned them.

Reminds me of a budgie (Joe) I had as a kid which lived to 18 years old. For the last few years he couldn't fly, had a large tumour on his belly, was in a permanent moult with hundreds of pin feathers & had more scale than skin on his legs, ceres and beak - a sight that only his owners could love.
