 I am a new gouldian breeder with reasonable success in my first season . I was wondering is there a water additive that i could add to keep it fresh for about 3-4 days in case i have to leave home. I read somewhere that virkon s is ok. All help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Vircon S is not suitable as a water additive. It is normally used as an antiseptic/cleanser for soaked seed.
If you want to supply a water system that only needs to be checked over days simply buy the small ground plastic bases that
accept a large coke bottle. The base is big enough for the birds to drink from but small enough to limiting fouling.
I use them in my bird room when holding a number of birds, bowls are fouled in hours yet these distribute clean water for days on end.

The two areas you need to consider is running out of water and fouled water.
No matter what additive you put in the water it will still be fouled by droppings, food and bathing.
Birds bathing will also empty a water bowl if it is not large and the weather is hot.
I have an indoor holding aviary with around 40/50 finches in it, there are 2 large plastic coke bottles
inverted into 2 small drinkers. They are changed every 3 days because of bird numbers, if I used water bowls/dishes
I would need to change them at least twice a day.

5ml/litre of apple cider vinegar will keep water clean and be far more beneficial to birds than disinfectant of any brand.

I believe the one with the "Mother" is the best due to being unrefined. It's the cloudy version. Craig

I use passwell multiclens. No dramas. I put in in my dogs water bowls too. Definitely keeps that clean from algae and mosquito larvae. Costs half of aviclens
