hi guys

Iv read on other forums about this combination leading to deaths in the nest. a lethal gene so to speak. some breeders have had deaths, while others have pairs that produce healthy young, just wanting to know here in Oz if anyone finds this to be true or bull!!

I plan on getting a DFY Male for next yr to pair with my SFY Hen, and just wanted to see how others have gone breeding them.

Jarryd :)

I've got 2 yellow pairs together they seem fine. Get few infertile eggs but nothing more than Green pairs. Only had them loose one yellow baby and that was after it fledged.

I have read blue x blue is bad idea thou.

I have yellows together and with greenbacks.I think you are better having a dfy with a greenback.as i do loose a few from the yellows. But the ones that go on are nice birds.

from what i remember all females are single factor. males are both.either df or sf your better with sf to sf it can produce df i think. if you put a df to a norm u get splits there for you get a mix of sf, df and splits for yellow... i just confused the crap outta myself again.. pete

your right pete. The only thing i think you maybe off track is a df to a norm will give you yellows and dilutes.I dont know if thats the same with Australian yellows and european yellows though.

If I remember correctly, the Australian Yellow is not sex linked. The European one is. The Aussie Yellow is autosomal recessive. Yes/No?

Mine are the normal sex linked yellows not Aussie yellows. The males are DF or SF hens are either yellow or not can't be split in the sex linked mutation.

We should get Mickp to setup a Genetics forum!
