Seen something new I have never been privy to till today..the courtship ritual of red strawberry finch...male sits back on tail..head tilted way back and flapping both wings (like a humming bird) all the while moving head back and forth at the hen sitting not to far away. ...I was amazed by it...

Red & Green Strawbs + Orangebreasts will do "anting" usually on ants or termites to get their aroma into the feathers. I've seen all 3 doing it & it usually looks like the bird trying to mate with the ground. I've only ever seen males doing it. If at the water it could also be bathing activity.

Green Strawb courtship ritual is actually very similar to Pictorella one.Craig52 wrote: 10 Mar 2018, 08:38 Sounds a bit like what a cock pictorella does but he goes around in circles. I think your cock strawberry was just enjoying sun bathing. Craig
