hi guys unfortunately today i have found y female gouldian very ill (egg bound) she had one egg in the nest and had laid one on the floor. i have taked the female out of her breeding cage and has been put in a hospital cage to hopefully pull her through. i have taken both eggs that have been laid so far and put them in with some bengos. they are really interested in the eggs and constantly sitting for the past hour so fingers crossed as this is my first attempt to foster. the male gouldian seems a bit confused he has been sitting in the nest for the majority of the time with no eggs in there. this is his first attemp and seems to have been doing a good job. should i pair him up with another female? i dont want to try again with my egg bound female as this is her 3rd unsucesfull attemp as the other 2 clutches where infertile due to the male i think.

i candled the eggs what i can see is a clear egg that has a yellow kind of circle on one of the sides. this is the same for both eggs. are they fertile? cheers guys

i think the weather is f%$#$@# every thing up

they should be darker not clear bud.. i think a hen having worms or other ailments can cause infertility too not just your male . there are many factors to consider with infertility have you read i guide to gouldian finches..its abig help. most libraries would have it or they could get it in so you dont have to buy it...or look at a second hand book store....pete

ow man that sucks. ill let my benganese keep them any way so they get some practice. i think the hen will die 2nite shes really looking terrible. get so excited and then every thing just goes wrong. they get wormed regurally and shes also been given ivomectim. can u give me some pointers on how you breed your birds. mine get sprouted seed, crushed egg shells with crushed cuttle bone egg and biscuit and iodine bella crushed in the same mix. there in a cage in my bird room which has a thermometer so i can reguarly check temp. they have meal worms although goulds dont seem to like them

try to keep her warm for now. you seem to be be doing things right for now. if they are in a cabinet they cant get natural sunlight try about 3to 6 drops of codliver oil in 1kg of seed helps them with vitamin d they need from the sun even in a breeding cabinets they can get drafts. but keep trying.and keep that hen warm ...pete

yes by the sound ur doing the right things aswell. if she makes it through the night. try and set some spark it is a electrolyte. it helps with stress and that. its always good to have it on hand. the dosage is one capfull to 250ml of water. i always have it in the cabinet for the unexpected . it also is good if your freighting birds around the country best to start 3-4 days before freighting then another 3-4 days after ariving at destination and if your getting in birds ask them if they can start them on it 3-4 days before they freight them to you. hope she makes it throught the night for you
thanks chris
