What size breeding cages?

I was thinking of getting some small breeding cages for my gouldians and zebras so that I have some control over which pairs breed. I want just 1 pair in each cage with 2 perches and breeding box.
I was wondering what is the best size cages to build and any pitfalls I should watch out for.
Thanks
Framed.

any breeding cages I make are 600mm deep x 600mm high x 600mm deep.
used to make them in banks of three with a solid wall between each cage.
after being shown and told about the advantages of having removable dividers between each cage I have now gone that way.
hopefully Poohbear will visit again soon as he used to have some brilliant breeding cages and with luck he may still have a pic available.

Hi Framed, I used single boxes years ago at around the same measurements as Micks, only becase of the space where they were. Micks Idea of a bank of 3 is good. I had removeable trays in the bottom for easy to clean.

hi . i use this kind of breeding cabinet when i was breeding goulds.its double with sliding center. width over all is 106cm x 38cm high x30 cm deep. with cane nest atatched to the back of the box. i breed many birds this way but never kept them full time in these boxes the buggers can put on some weight in these boxes. so during my non breeding times i kept them in large flight for the exersize. plus if u make them from melamine they are easy to wipe out when it comes time to clean. hope some of this helps...pete

I have budgies in a few.and find if you have them to deep or long it makes them hard to catch.

Tend to agree with gomer with the size. I have 3 banks with 6 cabinets per bank. Mine are 1300 long with a divider x 500 high x 450 deep. Much bigger than that and it would be difficult to catch them.

if I cant catch the birds in a couple of minutes in the cage then I leave the door open and let them out. find it much easier to catch them with a bigger net when they are flying around in the smaller section of my aviary

Thank You all for the advise. I found these on Ebay and they seem cheap enough so I'll give them a try and see how they go.
