Advice painteds tro breeding

Can anyone advise on the following I have a full red fronted painted cock and a possible full red fronted hen ( maybe average coloured cock) and a normal red fronted hen as a trio hoping to breed the 2 full reds
Does trio breeding work ?

Australian finches only breed in prs. Trios do not work.
For best results get 8-10 birds (4-5prs) and let the birds choose their own partners.

Letting birds select their own partners from a group will not suit selective maximising of the full red front. pair with one then separate to the other after breeding with the 1st.

I know that everyone said the same thing, but it is best to let the birds choose their own mates so they can produce better chicks.

Not if you wish to improve or maintain a specific trait.
