I have 3 pairs in a mixed aviary. They get plenty of exercise but certainly spend a lot of time eating. How do I tell if they are too glutenous?

How do I control how much they eat?

Overweight Parrotfinches are not their usual hyperactive selves, tend to lay infertile eggs and look heavy on the belly area & if caught up have visible yellow/orange sub-cutaneous fat under the skin on the belly area.

Control is all down to supply.

They are certainly very active as per normal.
I thought about limiting supply but I am concerned this would impact on my other finches.

be careful not to feed to many mealworms as this can cause fat problems especially in parrot finches,

Sounds like you are worrying about nothing! If they are active and the aviary is large you will not have any problems. If they are breeding and have young, keep up the mealworms. I give mine a small handful per two pairs each day and they have no problems. Good luck.

A small handful is ok for to pairs of parrot finches as i said large amounts is not to good for finches if there is not to many young to feed, cheers

Make sure you dont have too much oil seed in your mix. Made the mistake of mixing RFPF with a pr of siskins. They pigged out on the oil seed. End result fat red face not many young
