Saying hello

Hi everyone

This looks like a great forum and I'm glad to have you all as a resource. I'm an artist living in Los Angeles and have kept Australian finches for years (decades ago) and am planning a new mid-sized indoor aviary for mellow finches like Gouldians, Owl Finches or Cordon Bleus. Open to suggestions for a mixed aviary.

Ideally I wanted to keep button quail on the ground like I did in my outdoor aviary but I'm shying away from that for cleaning reasons. Working on methods for potted plants sunk into part of the floor and that can be removed/changed on a relatively frequent basis for cleaning. It'll be interesting to see what I come up with. My partner works for NASA so he's good a problem solving.

Welcome to the forum. I have kept Gouldians and Double Bars (owls) together without problems. Just need to make sure you supply different nesting requirements for each type. If you are only having finches not quail, then your potted plants wont need sinking into the floor, can just be placed in the avairy and removed/changed after carefully checking to see the Double Bars are not nesting in them.
