Hi
I am new to breeding Gouldians so forgive my ignorance.
Can anybody tell me what colour this young Gouldian will turn out as it is unlike the 24 other offspring that have just left the nests.
I only have purple breast and white breast all green back and a combination of Black red and orange head colours.

Thanks, ZODIAC

It will be a yellow headed or yellow-billed black-headed & the breast will be white.

Which means you should look very carefully for a white or yellow feather where there is not usually a white or yellow feather on a Gouldian. Because this is a common giveaway, that the bird is an Australian yellow carrier. They are technically a recessive pied.

As finchbreeder says .My “normal “ gouldians that carry the Australian yellow gene have a white patch under the beak or a yellow spot around the back of the head .

To produce an Australian yellow wouldn’t both parents have to carry the gene !

I agree that they are Australian Yellows - never any question of that. But the genetics of the Australian yellow is = to that of a recessive pied = and that is genetic fact. Which what I was saying.

Gary can you tell me
1. the method of inheritance for the aussie yellow?
2. the method of inheritance for a recessive pied?
3. the difference between the two?
This will answer your question better than anything I can say.
Because a pink elephant is pink even when people call it a light pigmented elephant
