Those are really bright and well coloured. If you type red fronted in search this topic at the top of the page you should come up with some more good pics from a few years back.

It's fairly obvious how to sex painteds including full red fronted with hens having no red under the bill or very little. For good red fronted hens the spots should be exceptional and a good red lash between them compared to a wild type bird.
Tiaris is the specialist with these birds so hopefully he will comment.

Just been away for a few days in the Hunter.
The difference is very obvious though. Hens from red-fronted lines are not full red fronted but do have a smallish red face mask including red below the chin plus a red slash on the belly similar to a common garden variety cockbird but with more spots as per typical Painted hens.
I haven't kept Painteds for about 6 years so can't offer any recent pics.
I've PMed to facilitate emailing you a couple, but don't expect to see any hens with unbroken red fronts as that would probably take 20 years of continuous intensive selective breeding to achieve.

Bumping. How are people doing with "full red painteds" these days. I know a few people had some really very red ones, but little talk re this of late.

I have bred a few males last year and my hens are staring to get some quality to them. I have 4 chicks from this year to date. Too early to tell if they will be red fronted painteds or more natural in colour. Some of the chicks the parents are spilt for fawn so it would be interesting to see what they colour up to.
