Hi all,

Went today to my seed supplier to purchase my usual 20kg bag of Avi Grain Blue Finch mix. Was informed that they had been advised by Avi Grain that this line was being discontinued. but Avi Grain Red Finch mix was still readily available. Not happy Jan! Needless to say. had to purchase the Red but I find it nowhere as good as the Blue as it is contains an inordinant amount of canola seed which, to me is an absolute waste as none, and I mean none, of my Stars, Goulds or Painteds touch it. $58 per 20kgs bag and then paid $11.00 a kg for Ellenbees Greens and Grains which was not of the same quality as before.

Anyhow the purpose of this post is to give the "heads up" to members of this situation and if your local seed merchant has any in stock I advise you to scoop it up before it all goes. No doubt the drought is having an effect on our seed supply and I hope rain comes soon to assist those suppliers/growers who are doing it tough and who we depend on. Hopefully when thing brighten up the Blue Mix will become available again.

Ken.

Yes your right, seed of any brand is hard to get and very expensive. But don't get sucked in that avi blue is not available anymore as if the truth is known they are stuck with the red brand that they know is crap for general finches and is full of filler seeds and the blue is hidden or sold to regular bulk buyers or mates.
Shop around even if have to do extra kms to get what you want and don't ring drive mate as there are alot of big finch breeders in the same predicament.

My local supplier in Dandenong has also advised me that avi blue is no longer available due to them not being able to acquire red pannicum to make up the mix and he definitely has none hidden.

Prices going up and seed mix being less mixed is becoming the norm unfortunately.

My place in Brissie doesn't sell finch blue anymore.

2 hours driving doesn't seem that much if it means getting Finch Blue....

#&%$, I should not have told you lot! Stay away from my Finch Blue!!! You will have to find the right store to start with (which reminds me I need to grab a bag of this delicious, chocka block and cheap seed this afternoon)

I'm only 30 minutes from the Avigrain HQ, and I paid ~$57 for my last few bags of Blue.
