Hybrid

This month's Australian Aviculture has a photo of what appears to be a Redbow x Painted hybrid.
Quite a striking bird.
The actual parentage isn't named as there is a competition on to guess what the parents are.

I was actually reading the QFS finch news the other day, and in the mag there was a picture of an 'Aberdeen'
It was the biggest hybrid between an Aberdeen and Cutthroat I have ever seen, was pretty disgusted by the called it an 'Aberdeen' really, but ah well

I've found that photo, I agree that is quite obviously an Aberdeen x Cut Throat. Its got no red feathers on its head, instead they're grey with specks of red, and the only sign of an Aberdeen is the slightly enlarged red throat patch.

This is what a proper Ridgy didge Aberdeen should look like, size of a Java Sparrow, Completely red head and well marked spots - That one in the QFS news look nothing like a proper Aberdeen
Anyway, we can't win them all

Drop QFS a polite letter pointing out the fact . . and again politely ask if they would be prepared to post a pic of your bird as a comparison and a warning . .
As a potential breeder of Aberdeens, you will be doing yourself and other breeders of genuine birds a favour. . not to mention purchasers . . and newcomers to the hobby
Because Aberdeens are pretty scarce on the ground, the photograph was probably included by someone who isn't even aware that the bird is a hybrid

I also saw the "Aberdeen" photo in Finch News. It was surprising for an organisation like QFS to make such an obvious error. I suspect it will be rectified quickly

I most certainly will do that Arthur, must keep our lines pure and when something like this gets so falsely advertised in such a large group there's a big chance that many would be 'uneducated' in the field
