But in short, most Aussie finches are exempt, except beautiful and red-eared firetails. These, along with a handful of softbills, doves and parrots, fall under class 1 license. Class two licenses include rarer softbills, doves and parrots. A standard license will set you back around $60 and includes 10 class 1 animals, with no breeding. A specialized license costs around $320 and means the keeper can keep up to 50 class 1 or 2 animals at a time, and breeding is permitted within the limit. An advanced license is $680 and allows unlimited keeping of class 1 and/or class 2 animals. All licenses last for 5 years.

Better late than never

And thanks to those who have contributed to 'the cause'

If you breed too many animals you have to do the following:
upgrade your licence
seek approval to sell or give away excess animals
euthanase them humanely.

How dumb is that, kill them if you breed too many. Surely it would make more sense to encourage people to breed them so there are more in captivity and fewer being illegally taken from the wild.

Obviously you apply the 'Nelson's Telescope Rule' . .

And 'they' will too . .

This is the best situation that Qld bird breeders have ever found themselves in . .there is nothing to grumble about here

Even the costs are almost reasonable . .
