Hello friends,
I have Gouldian, Orange breast and Cordon Waxbills in my planted aviary. I dont use fertilizer on the plants but wonder if cow manure is ok for the birds? I notice it has lots of midget flies on it after putting around a few palms, a natural source of insects would be amazing for my Waxbills, cots did mich to buy mealworms in syd.

I would think, only if wired off so the birds can't actually get to it.

As Finchbreeder said, basically no because it contains parasites like worms. You want to avoid having any type of manure in bird cages and especially chicken poop because that can spread diseases to the birds.

If you want to use manures, dig a hole and put the manure in that, put a bit of soil over it and put a plant on top. That way the birds can't get to it.

Liquid fertilisers like "Thrive" are the safest for inside the aviary because it goes into the soil.
