I have been keeping finches (mostly zebs) and doves and quail and Gloster canaries for over 20 yrs. Being about 600kms north of you I have everything in outdoor aviarys, and don't use heat. Just feed a good basic finch mix and seeding weeds out of the garden (I'm not a lazy gardener, all them weeds are there on purpose
) In the last couple of years since I have expanded more into mixed finches I have a fruit fly trap in the aviary for live food.
Results vary a great deal, but I keep on learning.
