A 2 year old red head hen has changed to yellow head after the moult which has just completed.
How usual is this?

Maybe she has been watching daytime television and wanted to try being blonde for a bit :)

Seriously tho, I have never heard of a finch changing colour after its first moult.

Has there been any change in their diet?
Are you sure it's the same bird?
Do you have friends that like to play practical jokes?

I can only assume she has the yellow head gene and for some reason that has taken over for this moult.

She has already had 2 breeding seasons with all young being red head. Her mate is also red head. They are the only gouldians in the aviary. Diet & supplements haven't changed.
