First time breeding success in my aviary

"So, I finally got two double barred, still young and friendly to the old one I already had ..."

This was a few month ago. They turned out to be a pair. Didn't use one of the nests in the aviary but one out of scratch from a plum-headed finch pair.
First they used it all three as roosting nest. Then there were eggs.
And today two little ones jumped out.

I wished I could upload pictures. They are very distinct and very cute. And really tiny ...

That is wonderful news. Glad to see that you are having sucess, and that your original Double Bar has friends now. Keep up the greens and if you can find some small insects e.g. aphids, and vinegar fly, that would be a bonus. Enjoy.

Congrats. Double bars are a great finch. Just wish their breeding results would be a bit more consistent.

Can you see something? Does not open for me ...
If you can, one of the siblings has the two bars, while the other - and bigger one - has almost no black feathers. Funny they should be so different while with the adults one cannot distinguish male from female.
I wonder if these differences give a hint!

Such a joy and aren't they the cutest of all the young finches.
Not sure about the missing bar, but suspect it will moult in.
Some of my Double Bars are really tiny when they fledge, I doubt it relates to sex.
They keep growing after fledging and in a few months will all be much the same size.

So cute! Little perfect versions of the adult, but still without voice. Just the begging noise when an adult comes near to feed them and a frail, high pitched 'little-plastic-trumpet' tone, that sort you get when you squeeze a plastic toy.

Very hot today, so that all birds have a long nap in the shadow and open beaks.

Do they have access to a bath? Some birds love to splash in shallow water. They are really cute. Wish mine would do something again, but no action in past couple of seasons.

Of course, there are three water places in the aviary. All my birds love to bath, even on cold days.
Up to now I haven't seen the younsters even drinking, let alone fly to the ground of the aviary. Perhaps they do so when no human is near.
There is enough shadow, too, so all of them can choose where to stay, even individually as there is plenty of place, even out of sight, if they want to. Most of the time however they crowd together in one corner to rest during daytime.

Dopuble Bars are very communal with their tendancy to stay close together at all times.
