Hey guys got my first pair of blue gouldians :lafhard: male is a black face purple chest blue and hen is a split black face blue was just wondering if the purple chest black face blue is genetically stronger that the other blue mutations..

Also thinking about keeping them in a large breeding box indoors possibly under a heat lamp or heat mat of some sort as they can be sensitive to the cold

Im considering outcrossing hen to normal cock
And breeding offspring with blue male.

When you say the hen is a split black face blue. What colour is her face and chest then? Her back is obviously blue. I would not put a heat lamp or heat mat. If they are indoors they are protected from cold winds, which is what causes problems for Gouldians.

Hen is a normal black face split blue

Cock is a blue back

My question is are some blues more resilient than others?

You get different types of blues right?

Im new to the gouldian game

Your better off out crossing the Blue cock to a normal hen, that will give you 100% split to blue for all there young. Split hen out crossed to a normal cock will give you no split for blues.

That is why I was trying to clarify what the hen was. Gouldians are as strong as the stock they are bred from. Their colour is not the main deciding factor on how strong they are. Breeding from strong stock and giving them the best food and conditions to breed strong resilient stock is. That means protect them from cold breezes and don't use heat which makes them soft. (my opinion)

Well the breeder had some avb probably the best ive ever seen and all his stock were seperated and all his gouldians had different body shaped which seems to be a product of good bloodlines. So im assuming the blues have been bred properly

Sounds like you have purchased good stock.
