Hi has anyone, colony bred red cheeked cordon Bleu ?
I have a book that says you can and another says the opposite which is best ?

If I recall correctly from seeing others setups with them. Those that do colony breed have very large planted avairies. Those with smaller avairies stick to pairs.

I colony bred Cordon's about a decade ago. Four pairs in a large planted aviary, 69 square metres of floorspace, 164 cubic metres of flying space. At the end of a given season, including the offspring, there would be close to twenty birds. It works to some extent, but i found there is a dominant pair that bred well, a secondary pair that bred a few and two other pair that where bullied and never bred. Lots of squabbling, enough to stop the others breeding but no serious physical harm ever occurred. Based on my experience I would recommend one pair per aviary for best breeding results, even in a large aviary. I think I tried it for three years straight before switching to a pair of Blue Caps, no success with them though.

That's excellent advice from your experience. It is the same with crimson finches only dominant prs breed.

hight (3m) as well as depth

These are such beautiful tiny birds!!! I don't know if one can get them in the US. hope they are not endangered:)
