This will hopefully be my first year owning and breeding Gouldian's.

I lost 5 pairs due to rodents while building the purpose built rodent free new aviary.

I grabbed these 3 pairs excited just to rebuild my dream of owning them.

Do i have the variations correct, from left to right.

1 RH PB GB - male
2 RH PB YB (DF) - male
3 YH WB YB - male
4 BH PB GB - female
5 AY RH - female
6 BH PB GB - female

Should I remove the AY from this collection, or band the chicks knowing that she is?

Thanks in advance

Hi and Welcome to the Forum.
Number 5 looks to be a Euro yellow hen not Australian yellow. All those birds can be bred together in Euro yellow combinations remembering the mutation is dominant sexlinked with the White breast being autosomal recessive so if paired to a hen that is split WB you get WB young but if not the young will be split WB.

Australia yellow have white chest, so someone may have mistaken that one. The back is different on Aussie and european yellows but.

Very true FB, but i didn't pick that up. So the bird 5 is definitely a Euro yellow and the combinations i said above still stand also there's some young keyboard warriors that think they know every thing on Facebook. Cheers

That was my assumption too Craig. Someone just looked at the breast and made an assumption without looking at the back. So Graham was given wrong information.
