Sprouting Niger Seed

I have grown a good crop of Niger seeds for my birds. The crop now is full of yellow flowers. I have used a foam fruit box for growing the crop. I put the box of plants into the avairy for the birds. I have red siskins and several other birds. They have no interest in the plants. I thought the birds would eat the flowers full of niger seeds. Has anyone had any experience with feeding niger plants to finches. Maybe this has not been worth the effort.
Thanks

They usually don't touch till the seeds go black and flowers die. Australian finches don't really eat black seeds but canary/siskin type finches do.

Thanks
It looks like I will have to wait a while. The niger is mainly for my siskins and green singers.

I had the same experience last year with home grown Niger seed. The Green Singers were more interested than the others but I did notice the Cordon Blue was keen for while. I started to mix a bit more Niger seed with my usual finch seed from AWS once a week for a more "oily" seed. No fatalities!
