Zebs keep on amazing me.

Aren't they such a marvellous little bird the old zeb? Thought I'd check all the nest boxes this morning after changing their water and my pied hen has 2 babies in the nest. A complete surprise as I thought her eggs were duds as she didn't appear to be sitting very well. I have eggs in other boxes too so hopefully I can be surprised again in the near future. Don't you love peeking in a box and seeing the babies for the first time? All my charcoal bubs fledged this week and they look really great. All hens too I think (x 3). If anyone wants some, let me know - $3 each.

I bought another 2 pairs today. A silver cock (love the light coloured cheeks), a pied fawn hen, a white cock and a white hen. The white hen has black tear drops. Very nice. They were only $3 each which is so cheap for such nice looking zebs. To be honest, I'm getting more enjoyment out of these zebs than anything else I have as they are actually getting stuck into breeding, unlike my goulds that sit there all day asleep and my gay princess parrots where the cocks spend all day chatting each other up. It's like they don't even know there are 2 hens in the aviary.

So there you go, proof that birds don't need to be exotic or expensive to enjoy them. Even the humble old Zebra finch can give so much enjoyment.

They have great character and it's fun to breed all the colours.
The downside is that they never stop reproducing and that can become a chore to manage.

When they get to that stage you do what I've done put them in there own aviary without any nests.
Then just select pairs and breed them in cabinets/cages to get specific types.
Don't get as many, but get more interesting colours.

Yes I still have more Zebs than anything else.

Sure no probs but it will probably be next weekend as it's dark now and I'm back at work tomorrow. I have a short day on Tuesday so I will see if I can get some pics in then.

I love my Zeb's they are smart full of life like a little 5 year old kid & always keen to give you entertainment Zeb style.

Really good all round bird for a pet. Also if your patient they will tame up quiet a bit where you can just about pet them. I suspect if you hand reared some they would take to being handled as adults?

I forgot to add they love music.

I took some pics this arvo. Sorry for the lack of quality but I was in a hurry as we had a storm brewing.

The silver male zebra is the one with the light cheek patches.
