I wish I had some young Gouldians so I can see for myself the whole "colouring up" process. Sounds fascinating. Does any other finch go through this phase? i.e. all colour up at the same time of year, irrespective of when they were born.

Hmmm I didnt quite make myself clear in my last post, sorry.
I was referring to the gouldians on the left of the screen that "colour up" when someone has left a new post.
But, as you wanted to see youngsters colouring up, I have just taken some pics of my gouldian youngsters for you.
This bird in the middle hatched on 29th April 2009 and is from BH PC GB parents

as you can see this colour process is giving him a bit of a startled look. You can also see just onne or two yellow feathers on the bird on the left
Same guy just a little clearer pic...less cage bars

This one has the purple chest feathers coming through

Didnt mean to make you feel like that, so sorry. My fault, didnt explain myself very well in the first post.
Will....
I agree with you about the red heads, I have two males that sit and sing their heads off but only have one or two red head feathers and they hatched 27th Feb. Really slow, Ill probably still have them colouring up next year!
Greg...
Thanks

Most of my young gouldians are almost fully coloured now. I have 3 clutches from one pair that have completely coloured now and their last clutch didn't fledge until mid july.
