Zeb egg eating

Hi everyone my first clutch of zeb eggs were all infertile unfortunately, she had a break then started laying again, on the fourth day she had 3 eggs was looking for no 4 and they were all gone, then she ate last one in front of me. would anyone know why they do this, is she to young although she is coulored up nice and looks old enough, cheers Bob. 8-)

I have heard of chocks egg eating.And would have a guess it would have somthing to do with a deficiantcy,maybe calcium?I remember as a kid my father would get the odd chock doing that,And would have to put it down,As it would keep eating all the eggs.

have heard that birds will eat infertile eggs in the wild supposedly so that there are no hints for any predators as to a nest being nearby.
as to that being true or not I have no idea.
any chook that did it when I was growing up ended up in the soup pot, dad used to say that it became habit. dont know if he was right or not either but the soup sure was nice
