No - it's not Spam but an idea I'm toying with. I know this is a Finch forum but I know many of you keep more than finches and I've kept neither of what I'm proposing so perhaps I can seek guidance. I have one daughter that would like to have rainbow lorikeets and one daughter that would like to have sugar gliders. Over here we can occasionally get ornate lorikeets (close enough) and gliders. In order to contain costs I was wondering if I could build an aviary with a suspended flight with a division in the sheltered end. A door could be used to alternately close off one side or the other for a day-shift for the lorikeets and night shift for the gliders. Is this clever or is this dumb?

Hi Greg iam not sure if i can help as i don't know anything about the gliders, i was toying with the idea of some gliders myself and was going to house them in there own as they are Nocturnal and the lories are day feeders so i would say that there would some conflict there

If the lorikeets & gliders stick top thier times they shouldn't worry one another and if they are in separate shelters locked away from oneanother there'd be no problem. The shared suspended flight would be thier only common area but the lorikeets would be denied access during the night and the gliders denied access during the day.

I know the gliders here come from the US but without a zoo licence how can you get them in Australia? Perhaps it's better you don't answer that!

Well I haven't built the appartment yet but I did get a male sugar-glider yeaterday. He's not as friendly as I'd been led to believe but at least he doesn't bite. I guess he will take a while to settle in and get over the trauma of sale. I found him in a store in a small (15XX15X20cm) clear plastic box amongst similar boxes of scorpions and tarantulas! Findng a mate may be a challence ags this is the first time I've seen them at Cartimar when they weren't sold as a pair. The kids adore him but how my wife, who is currently at a conference in the US, will feel is another thing.
