Just had the last of my gouldian youngsters leave the nest. I have removed each nest as they left it, but I want to remove either the male or the female of each pair so that no further breeding is able to take place.

Which adult would be the best to take away and how soon after the young leave the nest?

If you have removed all the nests I see no need to remove any birds, unless you want to pair them up differently next season.

I was just going by Mike Fidler, in his Gouldian Life Cycle Calender he recommends separating the pairs into single sex flights.

Although Im taking out the boxes I have to leave some wicker nests in the aviary for the ruddies and emblemas, dont want the gouldians taking advantage of the wicker nests.

my reason for this is purely selfish, by leaving the males in the aviary it is more colourful

My thoughts exactly! Although selfish thoughts at first I then reasoned that the hen laid the eggs so had that bit more to do with them so needs the rest earlier.

With these last two clutches only having three young each the boys are "bringing up baby" just fine.
When Im sure the young are feeding themselves fully I will be taking all adults out and moving all the male youngsters into the big aviary so that I can see them colour up. The adult males will get added back after they have gone through their moult.
Should make the aviary full of colour.
