welcome swallows are native to australia...sometimes vagrants come from overseas but not enough to make the dish I suspect
They are migratory within their range though and this might give people the idea they are not from around here...following is info taken from Wilkipedia web site
"The Welcome Swallow (Hirundo neoxena) is a small passerine bird in the swallow family.
It is a species native to Australia and nearby islands, but not until recently to New Zealand, which has been colonised in the last half century. It is very similar to the Pacific Swallow with which it is often considered conspecific."
I hope this helps....and I hope it preserves a few lil frail bodies from the fangs of gourmets
Kevin S......from friends of the swallows....(sorry about the poo though Tom)

Be thankful you havent got stinking starlings , Dubbo is rife with them to the point where we have people spreading kitty litter in undercover car parks every day to try and catch starling crap.
The smell of them in enclosed car parks makes you want to heave its that bad.
Council has even gone to the extreme of spraying hallucinagetics onto trees in the CBD to get rid of them .
Trees are also netted to keep them out but to no avail they seem to be everywhere .
Actually the whole town would make a good Alfred Hitchcock thriller at the moment what with the starlings , the cockies chewing signs from businesses , the mutant minor birds terrorising anything with feathers and the masses of gigantic crows hanging around shopping centres ....sheesh all you used to worry about come spring time was teritorial maggies having a peck at your noggin , now the entire feathered community has gone feral.........

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.
