WOW

$165 for a pair of Normal Gouldians they must have been very very nice. Wouldn't we all like to get that much for our birds. The seller must still be smiling

Sounds like a good day out Chris. What would you say are the positive and negitives,Of a bird Auction vs bird sale.As the subject was bought up at our club meeting Sunday. The only negitive we could think of was you buy all birds in the box being 1 or 10,

yeh was a good day. most of the time there is only a pr of birds or the spare hens or cocks in a box. but this time there was 4 lots of nuns that had either 5-6birds in so you bought them. i think all clubs should at least give it a go. the only problem there has been for the bidders getten and payen for the birds they have won. one time i waited 2 and a half hours to get me birds(due to computer propbem) not sure how they went this time as didnt buy any birds so we left. the club has made bout 500 or so auction boxes so all birds go in to them cant use there own box. on the top of the price of the birds you bought the put $15 ontop to cover the cost of the box you can either take the box home with the birds you bought in or you can return it and get $14 back the other $1 goes in for cleaning storage and transport to the auction each time but it is worth it. they have 2 avairys so you can transfer the birds in to your own cage. in all its a good day and seens WA doesnt have many sales its a good time to get new stock and that
thanks chris

Hi all, we also went to the auction yesterday. Seemed to have gone a lot faster than the last one. Not such a wide variety of birds this time. Didn't get any myself. Prices seemed higher than what you'd normally get them for. Was a pretty good turnout though and always very interesting to watch and learn from. The Gouldians that went for $165 a pair, were a good topic of discussion. Must admit that they were good looking birds though.

Never been to a bird auction, being a little far away for it to work, or only found out too late.
I think the advantages could be the opportunity to buy a variety of birds from a variety of sellers without having to run arround so much, particularly if it was widely advertised well in advance. (Good for us country hicks who dont get down much and dont have a lot of time)
But Auctions of any kind are always a risk for the incautious, who get carried away with the atmosphere and pay more than they intended or should have.
Oh well there is always next time.
LML
And the opportunity to meet other finch people and if you dont buy at the auction maybe arrange to go see what else they have later.
