Sick bird, just bought her last week...

So I'm sure many of you have gone through this scenario. I just bought a Scarlet Chested Parrot last week and today she looks like dropping off the perch any minute. So do I kick up a stink with the dealer or do I just swallow it and move on?
I know what the dealer will say, 2 words...tough titties! He's done it before and will do it again.

I'd try a bit of spark in the birds water.
but would also give the dealer hell, if the dealer happens to be a pet shop or something similar then mention consumer affairs when you call the mongrel

What is spark?
Oh yes, the dealer is a mongrel...No doubt about it!

The dealer didn't necessarily know it was a sick bird.
It's just the luck of the drawer sometimes; we're talking about live animals and anything can go wrong.
It's even possible it wasn't ill before it left the store.

Psittacosis is common in Scarlets and the stress of moving can trigger it.
I had a similar experience after buyng a pair. The male very quickly became sick and ended up having a course of injections over 6 weeks for Psittacosis. I thought that was the end of it but after introducing them to a mixed aviary my Bourkes began to look ill. My theory is that the scarlet hen was carrying the infection without showing any symptoms ( originally when the male was treated the vet advised against treating her also as she looked well ) I ended up treating all the bourkes and scarlets with psittavet in their water for ages - seemed to clear things up and now all doing well
Scarlets are not the hardiest of birds though and maybe she has just been upset by the move - eggfood, green seeds etc might perk her up ??

She's hanging on but she looks so sick. Her eyes are closed now and she just sits there breathing heavily. Poor thing.

My wife just called to say she found her dead at the bottom of the cage. I have never been able to save a bird once it falls sick. Anyone have any tips that really work?
