How frustrating can this hobby be??? Came home tonight to find a perfectly healthy (well it was in the morning) Black Head Gouldian finch dead on the floor of my aviary. I have no idea why that could happen? It was a very nice mild day as well - 23 degrees. Any ideas? These birds are driving me nuts. That makes about 6 lost so far this year - 3 Gouldians, 1 Scarlet Hen, 1 Mannikin and 1 Turq. I thought I was doing all the right things but maybe not...

It is frustrating , heartbreaking and sad as well as the $$$$$$ but we do it hey....better luck in the future and try not to beat yaself up over it , just keep doing the homework and asking questions ...its all we can do .

the ones were you have no idea as to why it might have happened have to be the worst.
I lost an emblem cock bird a few weeks ago, he went into his nest to feed the young and that was it for him, luckily for me once I removed his body the hen went back to feeding the young.

So this morning I can't find my Ruddy cock bird at all. I reckon he's died during the night and is stuck in the brush somewhere. Another red head Gouldian cock is fluffed up and looking like this could be his last day on earth. Not looking forward to going home tonight to assess the carnage. Maybe I should just stick to Zebra's...

mate i would be a bit concerned . try catching on of the birds up and taking them to the local vet to narrow down your problems , dont know what weather your dealing with over there but the cold can trigger megabac off, all you need is one bird carrying it or it could be worms, its time to stop guessing and take one or two to a vet . sometimes a vet bill is cheaper than losing all your birds....pete

Good point. I worm religiously every 3 months with Worm Enda Plus so I'm hoping it's not that. I haven't lost a Zebra Finch or budgie. In fact they have never looked better.

I have a light in my aviary that is under a clay garden pot. The light is 40watt and birds sit under it if they are not well. You should try setting it up yourself. I currently have a Gouldian under mine that has been a bit unwell. They say that heat is really good for any birds that are not well.

I've lost a couple too. Got a sick Gouldian male at the moment ive treated if for every thing under the sun and it still looks sick. I know it one of my older birds so age is catching up. All my young one are tearing around like hyped up teenagers.
