I'm interested to know what the nesting medium is. Looks like to make a nest the birds remove some ot it to make a cavity rather than take some into the wire roll.

they are in a nest which is in a basket like the one in the pic below.
it is approx 1m high by 600mm in diameter. filled with pea straw. all I did was to poke a few holes in the pea straw. the birds find one of these holes to their liking and then hollow out a nest in it. I stuck a heap of small branches into it to try and provide some privacy between nests
