Hi I was just wondering when I should start breeding red check cordens blues and orange breasted waxbills. Also what diets do others use for breeding these finches.

Hi

I woul hold them back until they are 12 months if possible.

The more livefood the better.

Cheers

Like Luke said.
I quite by accident found that orange breasteds do wonderfully on small weevils, so strangely enough seed with weevils in is great for them.
Provided they also get a regular diet.

I always make sure that my rccb's & orange breasts are at least 12 months old before letting them breed.
as long as there are no nest intrusions they should breed quite easily.
both species need a good supply of live food (termites, maggots, mealworm) to raise a clutch successfully, have also learnt that they eat a lot of lebanese cucumber while there are young in the nest.
birds will breed almost any time of year, best to avoid the coldest parts of winter if possible due to the chances of egg binding increasing
