My painteds have been frustrating the hell out of me in a similar manner. They have built 4 nests in different locations, laying an egg or two in each. They sit for a few days then decide to start again. I thought they had it right this time, but now I have my doubts. They started sitting tight nearly 3 weeks ago and I would have expected to see them eating a lot more live food and greens by now if they had hatched so I'm thinking the eggs are clear. I'll give them until the weekend before I check the nest.

My other pair look like they have gone down 2day fingers crossed i'll get 2 lots out of them. The 2 cock birds have been fighting a little lately should have known. Is it late for them 2 b breeding or will they go all year round if allowed?

if the birds believe that the food supply is right then I would think that they would breed all year. my painteds have built nests at ground level out of all sorts of stuff when there have been no nests or materials available
