Hiya, i've recently purchased 2 Zebra Finches, and have a sad story to go with it .....
Bought a spunky black, brown n red male (Yepyep), and a plain white female (Tutu) with tear like markings near her eyes.
The female, infortunately mustve been injured when the woman at the pet shop pushed her into the box, because her left leg is broken (but wasnt in the shop, and i was careful transporting her home).
All in all the pair seemed to be getting along well. I've listened to some audio files from online and recognise that he was courting her, even with her broken leg. ... Then, i went out yesterday for a few hours, leaving them outside in the cage .... came home to a terrified female, and the broken body of Yepyep.
Housemates told me that the pair had been attacked by several local magpies. As had one of my housemates bird, when he accidentally dropped his cage and his Finch flew away....
I was concerned that Tutu may not be a reliable mother with her broken leg. Perhaps someone could advise me about that [it's been about 5 days, she can still fly, has a healthy appetite, but clearly traumatised by the attack yesterday. makes a sad chirping sound, possibly about her leg, but i suspect about losing her mate
